Former Biden Official Leads Trump Prosecution Now

(ProsperNews.net) – A prosecutor leading the charge against former President Trump in New York has previously worked for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), according to Federal Election Commission records. The files show that Matthew Colangelo, who delivered opening statements in the Trump “hush money” trial in Manhattan, received $18,000 in “political consulting” fees from the Democrats in 2018.

Colangelo joined Alvin Bragg’s Manhattan District Attorney’s office in December 2022, and months later, a previously reluctant Bragg announced charges against former President Trump. Colangelo arrived directly from the Biden administration Justice Department, prompting Republicans to initiate inquiries into the potential political motivations for the prosecution.

When Mr. Colangelo received the $18,000 from the DNC, he worked as deputy attorney general for social justice at then-New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s office. When Schneiderman resigned after facing sexual assault allegations, Barbara Underwood replaced him and filed a lawsuit against the Trump Foundation weeks after the DNC paid Colangelo. The suit claimed misuse of charitable funds by the Trump Foundation, and the matter concluded with the Foundation’s dissolution.

When Underwood departed, and Letitia James replaced her, Colangelo stayed on board until 2021, when he went to the Justice Department to oversee several departments, including civil rights, where he also served during the Obama administration. Furthermore, at one point in his career, Colangelo worked for then-Labor Secretary Tom Perez, who was chair of the DNC when it paid Colangelo for “political consulting.”

The House Judiciary Committee, led by Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, is demanding the Justice Department hand over Colangelo’s employment records for its investigation into “politically motivated prosecutions by state and local officials.”

Donald Trump has long maintained that the numerous criminal charges against him are political. Repeated polls and surveys show that millions of Americans agree, and Trump’s popularity remains largely unaffected by his legal woes. In April, for example, an AP-NORC survey revealed that just one in three Americans believe Donald Trump broke the law in the “hush money” case.
