Flying Soda Bottle Used To Knock Out Grocery Store Thief

(ProsperNews.net) – An employee of a grocery store recently knocked out a suspected shoplifter by throwing a two-liter bottle of Diet Coke at the thief, with the incident captured in security cam footage.

In the footage, a security guard for the store is attempting to stop the alleged thief by blocking the exit and preventing him from using the store’s entrance. Once the security guard turned the thief away from the entrance, a second employee arrived. Just seconds after arriving at the altercation, the second employee threw a large bottle of soda, which hit the shoplifter in the head. After being hit by the bottle, the shoplifter collapses to the ground, appearing to be knocked out by the suspected bottle of Diet Coke.

The bizarre incident is the latest instance of shoplifting incidents making national news and highlights a growing trend of employees fighting back against suspected thieves. Although the intervention by the second employee who threw the two-liter opens the worker to the possibility of a civil case, the worker is receiving praise from online audiences.

Shoplifting is becoming more prominent throughout the United States, up 73% in certain major cities like Dallas. One shoplifter from Oklahoma is believed to have stolen more than $1,000 worth of goods from a business in Oklahoma City. The growing trend of shoplifting is alarming to many business owners, as certain states enacted policies that prevent recourse for store employees or their employers. One such state is California, which rarely prosecutes shoplifters unless their theft exceeds a certain value. The alarming growth in shoplifting is also resulting in multiple tragedies, with officers and store workers killing shoplifters while attempting to stop their crimes.

One such incident occurred in Maize, Kansas, and resulted in the death of the alleged shoplifter. After cops cornered the accused thief, he told the Maize officers at the scene that he had a gun. Following the threat and his refusal to surrender, police opened fire on the accused shoplifter, killing him and injuring another officer struck by a bullet fragment. Although the suspect did not fire at the officers, police used force in response to his threat.
