Fandango Co-Founder Dies After 20-Floor Hotel Fall

(ProsperNews.net) – Fandango founder J. Michael Cline has reportedly committed suicide by jumping from a hotel window in Manhattan. Police arrived at the Kimberly Hotel on July 23 to find the 64-year-old entrepreneur “unresponsive with injuries indicative of a fall from an elevated position.” Reports indicate that hotel staff located a suicide note in Cline’s room. The note stated that the businessman could not “explain the pain” he was feeling and apologized for the drastic action he was about to take.

The multimillionaire father of six took his own life just days after undergoing gallbladder surgery, and friends said they were stunned to learn about the turmoil he was in.

Mr. Cline made his fortune by co-founding Fandango in 2000. The online ticketing website was credited with transforming ticket purchases, making them much easier and faster. A Cornell and Harvard University graduate, business commentators described Mr. Cline as a “serial entrepreneur” who inspired young people to pursue their dreams. At the time of his death, the businessman was a managing partner of Accretive, one of several companies he established throughout his career.

A New York native, Mr. Cline, also served as chairman of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and, in its 2020 annual report, he described his love and passion for American wildlife, saying that the importance of its conservation “cannot be overstated.”

Cline’s death adds to a growing number of suicides in America, which last year reached a record 50,000. US Surgeon General Kristen Welker said the figures represented the “defining health crisis of our time.” Statistics show that while suicide remains higher among males, women are also increasingly taking their own lives. Men are four times more likely than women to commit suicide, but in 2023, female suicide grew by 4%, whereas it increased by 1% among men.

The age group most likely to kill themselves is the 55 to 64 range; that figure grew by 9% last year.
