(ProsperNews.net) – Ex-NFL running back Rashard Mendenhall called for a Black vs White Bowl after stating that whites are not good at the game. He also lashed out at white commentators, whom he described as “average.”
In a Twitter post, he wrote, “I’m sick of average white guys commenting on football. Y’all not even good at football. Can we please replace the Pro Bowl with an All-Black vs. All-White Bowl so these cats can stop trying to teach me who’s good at football.”
Mendenhall’s race-based rant was not well received on the platform, with many accusing him of outright racism, while some posters pointed out that a white guy had a better record than him. “The best running back in the NFL right now is white, and Christian McCaffrey has had an infinitely better career than you,” wrote one. Another said, “A mediocre white guy is the NFL leading rusher by over 300 yards & has eclipsed your best season with 3 games left to play.”
The footballer appeared to later back peddle on his comments and said he was merely tired of being lectured on football by by “people who arent experts in de game.” His follow-up was equally badly received and people continued to call him out for racism and making assumptions that black people are better at football, even if statistics do not back that up. “If you are mad at people who aren’t experts in de game. Why did you direct your tweet at white people?” asked one tweeter.
It is not the first time Mendenhall has attracted criticism for expressing contentious political views. When the US military killed 9/11 terrorist Osama Bin Laden, Mr. Mendenhall expressed disbelief that Americans could hate Bin Laden, even though they had never heard him speak. “We’ve only heard one side,” he wrote. He later said he didn’t believe Bin Laden was responsible for 9/11, but apologized soon afterward and said his comments were “misconstrued.”
