(ProsperNews.net) – A Floridian GOP Representative turned up to Congress wearing an Israeli military uniform and lashed out at Democrats for their apparent support of the terrorist group Hamas. He specifically mentioned Rep. Rashida Tlaib who displays the Palestinian flag at her office. “As the only member to serve with both the United States Army and the Israel Defense Forces, I will always stand with Israel. Tlaib’s got her flag. I got my uniform,” he tweeted.
A reporter challenged Tlaib about the flag and the Rep. refused to respond to questions about whether she supports Hamas or if she is willing to condemn the atrocities carried out by group when it launched a terror attack on Israel on October 7 that killed more than 1,300 civilians. She later released a statement however saying she mourns the loss of innocent Palestinian and Israeli lives, and hopes everyone can live in peace with “true freedom, equal rights, and human dignity.”
Mast served as a bomb disposal expert with the US Army in Afghanistan until an explosion cost him both of his legs. However, he still volunteered for the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). “I saw a need in my own country to show support for Israel and so I did it,” he said.
His gesture of wearing an Israeli uniform in Congress did not elicit much support on Twitter, where most people objected and described it as a symbol of allegiance to a foreign power. “No elected official should be wearing the uniform of a foreign country,” said one poster, while another told the Congressman, “If you want to wear the uniform of another country. Step down from office and go to Israel.”
Several people called for an end to dual nationality for Members of Congress, and from among the little support he had, one person told Mr. Mast that he understood the gesture and its background, but it remains inappropriate to wear the military uniform of a foreign country.
