Ex-Cop Wanted for Killing Family Members, Abducting Son

(ProsperNews.net) – A major manhunt got underway in Washington when an ex-cop was accused of double murder and the abduction of a one-year-old boy. The series of incidents unfolded on April 22 when Elias Huizar reportedly shot his ex-wife Amber Marie Rodriguez outside the William Wiley Elementary School in West Richland, killing her instantly.

Witnesses described hearing four or five shots, followed by screaming and scenes of chaos as police ordered parents to leave the area and locked down the school.

When officers began investigating the murder, they searched Huizar’s home and found the dead body of his 17-year-old girlfriend. They also discovered that the 39-year-old was on the run with his young son and issued an amber alert saying Huizar was likely on his way to Mexico, was driving a silver 2009 Toyota Corolla, and was considered armed and extremely dangerous.

The former school resource officer was already under investigation for raping a friend of his 17-year-old girlfriend, and police were curious as to the extent and duration of his relationship with the young mother of his son. After the unnamed teenager’s friend reported Huizar for rape in February, he was arrested and released on $200,000 bail. This prompted his ex-wife to seek a legal protection order and to file for child custody alterations, which police believe led to the murders. Rodgriguez divorced Huizar in 2020, and they shared two young children.

On the afternoon of April 23, Oregon State Police spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Interstate 5 and attempted to pull him over. Huizar resisted and engaged in a chase with officers. Oregon State Police Capt. Kyle Kennedy told reporters that his officers cornered Huizar, who fired at them before fleeing again.

State troopers continued their pursuit until the suspect crashed his car and became immobile. As the troopers approached the vehicle, Huizar shot himself and died instantly. The one-year-old boy was located inside the car unharmed. Police placed him in the care of Oregon authorities.
