(ProsperNews.net) – Prosecutors have charged former CIA officer Brian Raymond with drugging and raping 25 women. Raymond has indicated that his defense will rely on consent while intoxicated, and he has hired psychology experts who specialize in the “workings of human memory when under the influence of alcohol.”
The defendant has retained the services of Dr. Deborah Davis, a professor of psychology at the University of Nevada, to provide such expertise. According to filed documents, Dr. Davis will explain to the court that while under the influence of alcohol, a person may indicate that they consent to intimacy through “physical and verbal action.” Davis also testified in a civil trial on behalf of Bill Cosby in 2022, but the argument was unsuccessful, and Cosby lost the case.
Dr. Elizabeth Loftus, who specializes in “false memories,” will also testify. She spoke in defense of both Harvey Weinstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, but both were convicted regardless. Dr. Loftus will attempt to persuade the jury that the memories of Raymond’s alleged victims cannot be trusted.
Investigations into Mr. Raymond’s conduct began in 2020 when a passerby reported seeing a naked woman screaming on the balcony of an apartment in Mexico City rented by the US government. Investigators later found images on Raymond’s phone allegedly showing him fondling naked unconscious women.
In 2021, he pleaded guilty to abuse and transporting obscene material but later withdrew the guilty plea, saying he experienced erectile dysfunction due to medication prescribed for an enlarged prostate.
The case almost collapsed in May because officials appeared to botch the execution of the warrant to seize Mr. Raymond’s phone. The issue surrounds whether law enforcement can compel a suspect to unlock his phone and if this violates the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. He remains in jail awaiting trial.
Raymond’s case mirrors that of former CIA spy Andrew Warren, who was jailed for more than five years for drugging and assaulting two women while on assignment in Algeria in 2011.
