(ProsperNews.net) – Senior European officials voiced concerns about President Biden’s cognitive strength before his debate against Donald Trump in Atlanta and repeated them on social media after his troubled performance. For instance, Norbert Rottgen of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany tweeted that Democrats “must change course” and Germany must prepare for an uncertain future from a security standpoint.
Former Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa wrote that he had made a bet months ago that Biden would not be the Democrats’ candidate on November 5, while Polish President Donald Tusk stated, “I was afraid of this.”
Rumors have begun swirling through American politics that Biden may be forced to stand aside, with Kamala Harris considered his most likely replacement. The President appeared tired at the Atlanta event, and the White House quickly claimed he had a cold, which explained his hoarse voice. Nonetheless, commentators remarked that it seemed more serious than that, as Biden struggled to maintain his train of thought in several instances.
Harris appeared with the President on a White House balcony on July 4 and mistakenly referred to him as the “Vice President” before rapidly correcting herself. The President once again seemed confused and referred to himself as the first black woman in the Vice President’s office.
Among those considered top contenders to take Biden’s place is California Governor Gavin Newsom, who a UK betting company has named as its favorite. The same company also considers former First Lady Michelle Obama a strong contender, as well as Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Hillary Clinton.
Democrat sources, however, reportedly told journalists that Harris tops the party’s internal lists, even though some believe the Vice President’s poor polling will likely pose an obstacle.
Surveys have previously designated Harris the least popular Vice President in history, but commentators suggest this will not deter her. Her supporters describe her as the most recognizable of all potential alternatives, and in a recent head-to-head poll against Donald Trump, she trailed him by just 1%.
