(ProsperNews.net) – Donald Trump has been confirmed as the GOP Presidential candidate for 2024. The former President has been campaigning as the “presumptive” nominee for months, but now his formal status has changed. The confirmation occurred at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, just days after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to assassinate Mr. Trump at a Pennsylvania rally.
After receiving the delegate majority he needed, Mr. Trump joined a short list of previous Presidents to win their party’s nomination more than twice. These were Presidents Thomas Jefferson, Grover Cleveland, William Jennings Bryan, Franklin Roosevelt, and Richard Nixon.
Donald Trump, who leads President Biden in many polls, also unveiled his running mate immediately before the convention. Trump surprised some observers with his choice of Ohio Senator JD Vance, who has previously described himself as a “never Trump guy” and who compared the former President to Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
During his speech to Republican colleagues in Milwaukee, Mr. Vance said he was a “working-class boy” and promised to stand up for “forgotten Americans” alongside Mr. Trump. Regarding immigration, the new Vice Presidential candidate said he welcomes newcomers to America, but only on America’s terms. Vance’s wife, Usha, was introduced to the audience, and his mother, a recovering drug addict, was also present.
Other former Trump adversaries, including Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, likewise addressed the convention, calling for GOP unity behind Donald Trump’s leadership. Haley was greeted with cheers and boos as she took to the stage but opened her remarks by saying, “I’ll start by making one thing perfectly clear: Donald Trump has my strong endorsement, period.”
Ron DeSantis took aim at President Biden and compared Democrats to characters from the 1980s comedy “Weekend at Bernie’s.” The film depicts two corporate workers trying to dupe a group of partygoers into believing their dead host is still alive.
DeSantis told Democrats to take Joe Biden back to his basement, because Donald Trump is going back to the White House.
