(ProsperNews.net) – Further evidence that the January 6 Congressional committee discounted evidence favorable to Donald Trump has emerged. Leaked recordings of a conversation between committee chair and fierce Trump critic Liz Cheney and Deputy Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato in January 2022 reveal that Mr. Ornato testified that Donald Trump did not wrestle with a Secret Service agent and did request 10,000 National Guard troops to protect the Capitol on January 6.
The committee reportedly buried Ornato’s testimony, while claims damaging to Trump were amplified. For example, former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson testified that the former President attempted to commandeer a vehicle to drive to Capitol Hill during the riots, but this was later called into question due to a series of inconsistencies.
During Hutchinson’s testimony, she did not claim she saw Trump attempt to take control of a vehicle, but this was merely third-hand information, and the people she described as stating that Trump took that action both denied the claim.
Additionally, the January 6 committee, in its final report, stated that there was no evidence to suggest Donald Trump requested National Guard troops, but a report by the House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight found the opposite and concluded that the committee suppressed the information to paint Donald Trump in a negative light.
While Cheney insisted there was no evidence, an Oversight Committee transcript proved that the former Wyoming Congresswoman heard testimony from Mr. Ornato, who told her that White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows urged DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to request troop protection and that Trump had put forward a suggested figure of 10,000.
Writing in The Federalist, Mollie Hemingway claims that the committee not only suppressed that testimony but also initiated a smear campaign against Ornato to damage his credibility. The New York Times reported in June 2022 that while the committee would not publish transcripts of Ornato’s interview, it did tell reporters there were unnamed inconsistencies in his claims.
