(ProsperNews.net) – A New York District Attorney is under fire for refusing to pull over for police because she “didn’t feel like stopping.” Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley was subject to a severe backlash from locals when police body camera footage from Webster, New York, showed her dismissing and ignoring officers outside her home. Police questioned the attorney at the entrance of her garage and asked why she had not pulled over when requested, but she responded by making a phone call to Webster Chief of Police Dennis Kohlmeier and asking that he tell them to leave her alone.
When officers followed her into her garage, the lawyer complained that she had been dealing with murders all day and did not care if she was driving 20 mph over the speed limit.
Doorley argued with the police for several minutes before telling them to write her a ticket and leave it be. However, one officer told her that the situation had gone beyond that point, and she had committed an arrestable offense by refusing to stop.
Since the incident, stories of Ms. Doorley’s behavior have emerged, including an email she sent to her staff just days before she clashed with police. In it, she described attorneys as “a disaster, plain and simple.” The DA demanded that the lawyers be more diligent as it is “unacceptable to ignore your duties as a prosecutor.”
Some current and former staff members have spoken out about the toxic environment Doorley created in her offices, which prompted many to leave and seek work elsewhere. The DA insists, however, that staff turnover at her Monroe County office is no higher than the average and blames sexism for accusations that she can be hostile to employees.
The Democrat-turned-Republican later apologized for her conduct toward the officers, and some people publicly came to her defense. Lynn Mazurkiewicz, wife of a murdered police officer, said, “She fought for our family, and I will forever admire and respect her.”
