(ProsperNews.Net) – Republican Presidential frontrunners Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis have defended country music singer Jason Aldean’s controversial song that leftists denounced as “racist.” The song was released in May without much fanfare, but an accompanying video published in July prompted an outcry from left-wingers who described it as “pro-lynching.”
The song issues a warning to criminals who “sucker-punch somebody on a sidewalk” or “carjack an old lady” not to “try that in a small town” where “we look out for our own.” The video shows clips of Black Lives Matter riots and other crimes, interspersed with images of Mr. Aldean and his band performing in front of a courthouse in Columbia, Tennessee – the site of a lynching in 1927.
Aldean defended his music saying, “There is not a single lyric in the song that references race or points to it, and there isn’t a single video clip that isn’t real news footage.”
On Twitter, Floridian Governor Ron DeSantis said the singer has nothing to apologize for and “when the media attacks you, you’re doing something right.” Trump posted that Aldean was a great guy and America should support him all the way.
Music TV channel Country Music Video pulled the song, but Americans reacted by making it a number-one hit. It topped the US chart and reached number one on the iTunes Country Top 40.
Whoopi Goldberg once again clashed with “The View” co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin when they discussed the issue on the popular daytime show. Goldberg said Black Lives Matter rioters were merely trying to look after their own people, as endorsed by the song. Griffin hit back, insisting there is no intent to stoke division and the lyrics are not about race.
The two hosts also clashed recently when Griffin accused Goldberg of double standards for refusing to condemn President Biden for not acknowledging a child fathered by Hunter Biden. Griffin said it would be a different story if the grandpa was Donald Trump.
