(ProsperNews.net) – A war of words broke out between the Governors of the Sunshine State and the Golden State when one accused the other of kidnapping. California’s left-wing Governor Gavin Newsom, who once declared his state a place of “sanctuary,” lashed out at Florida’s Ron DeSantis on Twitter and threatened to report him to law enforcement for kidnapping.
The story began when a group of illegal immigrants arrived in Sacramento on June 3rd. They were flown to the city by private jet. According to a statement on Newsom’s website, the migrants were flown from Texas to New Mexico and on to California, where they arrived without warning or notice. They were allegedly carrying papers issued by the government of Florida.
Newsom went on Twitter and called Ron DeSantis a “small, pathetic man” and threatened him with kidnapping charges. This is based on the presumption that the migrants were lied to or coerced into traveling to California, which is a criminal offense.
In response, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (DOEM) released a video showing the migrants signing consent forms and agreeing to fly to the Golden State. A statement from Florida’s DOEM read, “Through verbal and written consent, these volunteers indicated they wanted to go to California. A contractor was present and ensured they made it safely to a 3rd-party NGO. The specific NGO, Catholic Charities, is used and funded by the federal government.”
Gavin Newsom famously advocates for open borders to the United States. In 2018, he attacked President Trump online and said, “Let me be clear, California is a sanctuary state.” This means essentially that anyone can go to California, including without the legal right to be in the US, and they will be allowed to remain.
Four years later, the Democratic Governor revised his position. In 2022, Newsom complained that illegal immigration was putting intolerable strain on his state. He accused the federal government of sending large numbers of people to California, adding that the Golden State was about to “break” under the pressure.
