DeSantis Promotes First US Ban on Pro-Palestine College Group

(ProsperNews.net) – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has ordered the closure of pro-Palestinian groups in colleges. The State University System (SUS) of Florida wrote to university student groups and demanded that chapters of the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapters be immediately dismantled.

There are two chapters of the controversial group in Florida: the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and Florida State University in Tallahassee. The letter noted that they labeled the terrorist attack against Israel on October 7 as “the resistance.” Therefore, they are guilty of “knowingly providing material support … to a designated foreign terrorist organization,” which is illegal under Florida law.

Mr. DeSantis has taken an uncompromising approach to the Middle East crisis and unequivocally declared his support of the Jewish state. Furthermore, he promised to deport non-US students if they participated in anti-Israel rallies, which he described as “celebrating terrorism.” DeSantis’ press secretary, Jeremy Redfern, recently tweeted, “They have a right to free speech. They don’t have a right to be in the United States.”

The Governor’s relatively tough position has not convinced Florida’s sole Jewish state Representative Rep. Randy Fine, who notably switched his allegiance to Donald Trump after the terror assault on Israel. Following the attack, Mr. Fine wrote that Jews in the United States can either “vote for the Governor who says all the right things or we can vote for the President who actually does them.”

DeSantis responded to Fine’s remarks, calling them “pure politics” and hinting that the support of Trump is revenge for the fact that he was not named president of Florida Atlantic University in a recent competition for the post. Asked why he has not previously condemned antisemitism in the Sunshine State, including neo-Nazi marches in 2022, DeSantis said he did not want to “elevate” their “nonsense.”

GOP Presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has said he would reimpose and extend his ban on migrants and travelers from some countries, including Gaza.
