Democrat Staffer Regrets Failure of Trump Assassination

(ProsperNews.net) – A Democrat staffer is under fire for a social media post in which she expressed disappointment that Donald Trump survived his assassination attempt. Jacqueline Marsaw, a field director for Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson, wrote that while she did not condone violence, she hoped that future shooters are better prepared and “don’t miss.” Marsaw has since deleted the post.

Rep. Thompson led the new-defunct January 6 Select Committee that recommended Trump be prosecuted and has previously tried to remove the former President’s Secret Service Protection. In April, he introduced the Denying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable (DISGRACED) Former Protectees Act, which sought to remove Trump’s security if he was convicted of a felony.

Part of Thompson’s reasoning was that Judges deciding upon sentencing should not have to consider the practical implications of jailing a person with Secret Service protection, and therefore, that protection should end upon conviction.

Since the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Pennsylvania, Rep. Thompson has faced renewed criticism from Republicans, with Donald Trump Jr. tweeting that his father would be dead if Rep. Thompson had been able to pass his bill. Georgia firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene added her voice and made similar remarks.

Thompson’s office has since posted a statement to social media, saying the Mississippi Rep. condemns violence and is “glad the former President is safe.” Later, he announced that the staff member who expressed disappointment about Trump’s survival had been fired.

Marsaw spoke out about her post and said she was “overwhelmed at the moment” because she is a “diehard Democrat.” She added that the post was intended as humor and she didn’t expect it to be taken seriously.

The Mississippi GOP called on Bennie Thompson to fire Ms. Marsaw and urged Democrats to “repudiate these despicable statements.”

Several senior Democrats have vociferously condemned the Pennsylvania shooting, including Barack Obama, who said America should “use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.”
