(ProsperNews.net) – Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs has asked President Biden for federal cash to help with the influx of migrants in Arizona. Hobbs joins a growing number of Democrats calling for a federal bailout as the cost of illegal migration mounts. In a letter to the White House, Governor Hobbs said Washington should reimburse the Grand Canyon State to the tune of $512 million “for ongoing border operations resulting from the federal government’s failure to secure the Arizona border.”
Hobbs, like fellow Democrats complaining of the cost of illegal migration, did not ask the President to take action to stem the flow and close the border.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul made similar requests recently and asked the White House for cash, but did not suggest the migration itself needs to stop. While complaining about the costs, Governor Hochul continued to advocate measures that would inevitably attract more migrants. Ms. Hochul wants illegal immigrants to receive subsidized housing and healthcare and American taxpayers – most of whom do not live in New York – to foot the bill.
The Mayors of self-described “sanctuary cities” wrote to the White House in November and asked for a meeting with President Biden to discuss a bailout of $5 billion. “Our city budgets and local taxpayers continue to bear the brunt of this ongoing federal crisis,” the letter stated. The President has asked Congress for $1.4 billion to help states cope with the influx, but the Mayors – representing New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Denver – said that was not enough.
New York, led by pro-migration advocate Eric Adams, has spent more than $1.7 billion on migrants since last spring, while Chicago has forked out more than $320 million and Denver is currently spending more than $2 million per month, according to the letter.
Millions of migrants have entered the US illegally since Joe Biden entered the Oval Office, and Republican candidates for the White House in 2024 have all promised to close the border.
