(ProsperNews.net) – Dave Coulier, cherished for his portrayal of Joey Gladstone on Full House, has disclosed that he is battling stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. The 65-year-old actor shared the news in an emotional interview with People magazine, detailing the rapid progression of his diagnosis and treatment journey since discovering the illness last month.
Coulier recounted that his ordeal began with what seemed like a routine upper respiratory infection and noticeable swelling in his lymph nodes. Concerned, his doctor ordered PET and CT scans to investigate further. Three days later, Coulier received a life-altering call confirming he had B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a highly aggressive form of cancer.
“I went from, ‘I’ve got a little bit of a head cold,’ to ‘I have cancer,’ and it was pretty overwhelming,” Coulier said.
Despite the shocking diagnosis, Coulier quickly mobilized his support system, including his wife, Melissa Bring, and close friends. Within two weeks, he began an intensive chemotherapy regimen. The treatment plan offered hope, with a bone marrow test showing no cancer, significantly boosting his prognosis to a 90% chance of curability. “That was a great day,” he reflected.
In a proactive step, Coulier decided to shave his head, anticipating the hair loss that often accompanies chemotherapy. He described the act as a symbol of facing his diagnosis head-on. “I’m not going to try and hide anything,” he explained, emphasizing the importance of openness and determination during his journey.
Coulier credited his wife for her steadfast support, which he said has been a key motivator. “I’m going to be strong for her,” he said, adding that he drew inspiration from family members who have also faced cancer, including his mother, sister, and niece. Despite the gravity of the situation, Coulier shared that he found an unexpected sense of peace, ready to embrace whatever outcome awaited.
In his message to fans, Coulier encouraged prioritizing health and regular medical check-ups. “Take great care of yourself, because there’s a lot to live for,” he advised. “If that means talking with your doctors or getting a mammogram, breast exam, or colonoscopy, it can really make a big change in your life.”
Coulier’s openness about his diagnosis has inspired fans worldwide, as he continues to tackle his cancer journey with resilience and hope.
