Dad Shoots Daughter’s Alleged Abuser

(ProsperNews.net) – An Illinois father tracked down and shot a man he believed had abused his daughter. The unnamed woman reportedly turned up at her parent’s home the day after Christmas, saying she had been the victim of a domestic assault.

In a Facebook post, the Wood River Police Department said they responded to a call from the parent’s house and later met with the alleged victim at the crime scene in the Mildred Street area of the city.

The alleged perpetrator was not present, but while police conducted investigations on the scene, they received a separate report about shots fired on Sixth Street, near the center of the city. They responded immediately to find that the shooter was the woman’s father, and the victim was the man she accused of assaulting her.

Later reports suggested both men had been shot, and both were taken to local hospitals. A neighbor who witnessed the incident said he heard a shot and looked out to find an older man holding a gun over a younger man who was lying on the ground. The older man reportedly shouted, “That’s my daughter! She means everything to me!” The neighbor said the older man then shot the younger one, who began screaming in pain.

The local District Attorney’s office said it will consider bringing charges against the father. Previous cases have produced mixed results, with some people brought up on murder charges while others are set free. For example, in Texas in 2020, officials charged Lon L. Hall with first-degree murder for killing his daughter’s alleged abuser, while years earlier, also in Texas, a child’s father faced no charges for shooting his daughter’s rapist.

There have been several instances of retaliation by angered parents in recent years, including a mother in Indiana who cut off the genitals of her daughter’s 18-year-old boyfriend after discovering he had molested her son. She was sentenced to 10 months in prison.
