(ProsperNews.net) – Country singer Ingrid Andress has checked into a habitation facility after admitting she was drunk while singing the national anthem at a Major League Baseball (MLB) event in Texas. On social media the following day, Andress confessed to being intoxicated and pledged to get the help she needed.
The confession came after the 34-year-old Grammy-nominated singer performed the Star-Spangled Banner at Globe Life Field in Arlington and appeared to slur her words. Social media exploded with criticism, with many saying it was the worst rendition of the national anthem they had ever heard. Others compared it to the equally poorly received performance by the Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie at a 2018 NBA All-Star Game. Fergie opted to slow down the anthem, prompting complaints that it was unrecognizable.
Despite criticisms, however, Andress’ music sales and downloads have soared in the wake of her drunken performance, with SoundCloud reporting an uptick in popularity for two of the singer’s major hits, “More Hearts Than Mine” and “Wishful Drinking.” Nevertheless, Andress has canceled two upcoming shows scheduled for Nashville and Denver.
The Colorado native started her career at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, before moving to Nashville to pursue country music stardom. She collaborated with Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman on the “Five Decades, One Voice” in 2019 and released her debut album “Lady Like” the following year. Her second album, “Good Person,” arrived in 2022 and was followed by a nationwide tour.
Nevertheless, commentators suggest the singer’s reputation is forever changed as she joins a list of performers who were famously drunk at notable events. Among such notorious performances was that of the late British star Amy Winehouse, who canceled the remainder of a tour after appearing intoxicated and unable to perform at a concert in Serbia in 2011. The “Rehab” singer died from alcohol poisoning just weeks later at her London home. Winehouse earlier confessed she had struggled with addiction since her teens.
