Cornel West to Appear Michigan Ballot, Judge Decides

(ProsperNews.net) – Independent presidential candidate Cornell West will appear on the general election ballot for the state of Michigan in November following a recent court ruling.

Judge James Robert Redford ruled on Saturday, Aug. 24, that state officials must “qualify” the independent candidate and his vice presidential candidate, Melina Abdullah, on the ballot for Michigan. Pennsylvania recently ruled that the independent cannot appear on the Keystone State’s ballot while Maine Democrats failed to keep him off.

The day before the court decision, West appeared on the Status Coup News podcast on Friday, Aug. 23, and told journalist Jordan Chariton that the Harris-Walz campaign reached out to him and offered the scholar a job in their administration if victorious in November. West also said they offered to pay off his campaign debts if he dropped out and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The conversation took place in the wake of the expected decision of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to end his campaign and endorse former President Donald Trump.

West is still in the race and the Michigan ruling orders the state to qualify him and his running mate for the ballot as independent candidates as long as the qualifying petitions pass the review process. It overturns efforts by the Michigan Secretary of State to suppress voters’ choices in November.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, the Wisconsin Elections Commission voted to keep West on the state presidential ballot after the Democrats tried to have him ousted there. That same vote rejected Kennedy’s request to have himself removed from the ballot and determined to keep him on it. Democratic elections commissioners also tried to keep Jill Stein of the Green Party off the Wisconsin ballot and failed.

Michigan election officials initially denied West’s ballot due to notary issues and his campaign appealed the decision. In a social media post, the independent candidate celebrated the decision as a “win for democracy” and those who fight for “truth, justice, and love.” He said “thousands of voices” came together to reject the “technical challenges” brought on by the Democrats and won.
