(ProsperNews.net) – Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has been criticized for wearing a dress that its designer had named “Windsor.” Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, son of the UK’s King Charles III, visited Nigeria for a trip some critics say mimicked an official Royal tour. This prompted Buckingham Palace to clarify that the couple are now private citizens and do not represent the United Kingdom. Upon arrival, Markle wore a “Windsor” dress by designer Heidi Merrick. Windsor is the surname of the British Royal family.
Social media observers mocked the Duchess, saying she is desperate to maintain links with the world’s most famous Royal household despite walking away from official duties in 2020 and denouncing the highly regulated and conservative lifestyle that comes with being a member of the ancient institution. “She’s desperate for the benefits without the duty,” one person wrote.
Meghan and Harry were in Nigeria for a three-day tour, during which they attended various charity events in a 16-car convoy and surrounded by police escorts. Meghan even described the country as “home” after revealing that a genealogy investigation found she was “43% Nigerian.”
Some Royal observers said the trip indicated the couple’s desire to re-enter the Royal fold, but Buckingham Palace issued a statement saying this would not happen. The feud between Harry and his family appeared to deepen just weeks before the Nigeria visit when the Prince visited his home nation but was snubbed by the King, who said he was too busy to meet with his son. Prince Harry also did not spend time with his brother, future King Prince William.
Meanwhile, the couple’s charity, the Archewell Foundation, was temporarily banned from raising funds amid accusations that it had failed to file annual renewal documents and fees. The scandal blew over, however, when officials declared that the check was received but not processed on time. California Governor Gavin Newsom rushed to Harry and Meghan’s defense, saying the issue had been blown way out of proportion.
