(ProsperNews.net) – A 22-year-old college student has been murdered by an illegal immigrant in Georgia. Prosecutors charged Venezuela native Jose Antonio Ibarra with the murder of Laken Riley, a student at Augusta University, who went running near her college campus on the morning of February 22 but never made it back home. When she failed to return, her roommate contacted the police, who found her body along her usual running route and arrested Ibarra the following day.
Ibarra first entered the US in 2022 and was briefly detained at the border before being released under the federal government’s catch-and-release policy. He was later arrested in Queens, New York, for injuring a child and rereleased before federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents could detain him for deportation – this is policy in “sanctuary cities” such as New York.
Prosecutors have now charged Ibarra with felony murder, as well as kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and other charges. Court documents say he “disfigured her skull” with an “object” before dragging her to a secluded area.
Riley is one of several young women to fall victim to migrant crime, including at the hands of criminals who should have been deported. Mollie Tibbetts was murdered while jogging in Iowa in 2018, and illegal immigrant Bahena Rivera was convicted for her killing. Rivera had worked in Iowa using a stolen ID and social security number.
In January, Tammy Nobles filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security, which she blames for causing her daughter’s murder in 2022. A 16-year-old migrant from El Salvador was arrested for murdering 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton in Maryland, and her mother says the government could have prevented her death.
The alleged killer was reportedly a member of a notorious El Salvadorian gang, MS-13, and should, therefore, have been flagged by US authorities. “All they had to do was make one phone call to El Salvador to know that he was an MS-13 gang member on the list,” Nobles said.
