Clinton Claims Riley’s Death Could Have Been Avoided with Proper Vetting

(ProsperNews.net) – Former President Bill Clinton sparked controversy over the weekend by criticizing the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies in connection to the tragic death of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student from Augusta University. Riley was allegedly killed by an illegal migrant who had been released into the U.S. under the current administration’s immigration policies.

Speaking at a campaign event for Vice President Kamala Harris in Fort Valley, Georgia, Clinton argued that Riley’s death “probably wouldn’t have happened” if the administration had properly vetted her accused murderer. He pointed to the Biden-Harris administration’s rollback of several Trump-era border policies, such as the suspension of the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which had required asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while their cases were processed.

“You had a case in Georgia not very long ago, didn’t you? They made an ad about a young woman who’d been killed by an [illegal] immigrant,” Clinton remarked, highlighting Riley’s case. He added, “Well, if they’d all been properly vetted that probably wouldn’t have happened.”

Clinton’s comments came as the Biden-Harris administration faces growing criticism for its handling of the southern border. Under their leadership, nearly two million “gotaways”—migrants who evaded U.S. Border Patrol—have entered the country, according to Republican lawmakers on the House Committee on Homeland Security. These migrants include those with criminal backgrounds, with data showing that at least 13,099 convicted murderers and over 222,000 individuals facing criminal charges have been allowed to move freely in American communities.

Critics argue that the administration’s policies, which have seen a loosening of immigration enforcement and vetting procedures, are contributing to a rise in criminal activity. Pew Research Center estimates that the illegal migrant population in the U.S. was around 11 million in 2022, though some believe the true figure could be even higher.

As Election Day nears, border security remains a pivotal issue, with Clinton’s remarks tying Harris more closely to the administration’s decisions and their consequences for American communities.
