(ProsperNews.net) – The majority of New Yorkers believe the immigration crisis will destroy the nation’s largest city. A Siena College poll late last year showed that 58% agree with Mayor Eric Adams’s assessment that the city cannot take any more immigrants, with most placing the blame on President Biden. More than 118,000 border crossers have arrived in New York City since last spring, and Adams has instituted public expenditure cuts to pay for their accommodation and other essentials.
Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said it is rare for a survey to show people of all racial groups, men and women, and people of various religious backgrounds agreeing on an issue. While the majority – 64% – blame Biden, 46% blame Mayor Adams, and 52% hold Governor Kathy Hochul responsible for the crisis.
Meanwhile, kids were sent home from a Brooklyn school in January and told they would be home-schooled so the building could be used to house migrants. Council Member Inna Vernikov issued a statement saying 2,000 migrants will be housed at James Madison High School from January 10. She said the situation was “unacceptable” and “entirely foreseeable.” The Councilmember added that the move would “disrupt the entire school environment and place a tremendous burden on our families, students, school administrators, and staff.”
Posting a video of the migrants arriving at James Madison High on social media, Twitter owner Elon Musk wrote, “This is what happens when you run out of hotel rooms. Soon, cities will run out of schools to vacate. Then they will come for your homes.”
While there is little sign of that happening in the United States yet, many in Europe believe it is on the way. In the UK, for example, the government offers money to local people to take migrants into their homes. The country is spending billions per year housing illegal immigrants in hotels, but space is rapidly running out. Some migrants are now housed off-shore on barges.
