Chiefs Shooting Suspect’s Mom Launches GoFundMe Amid Crisis

(ProsperNews.net) – The mother of suspected Kansas City Super Bowl parade shooter Lyndell Mays created a GoFundMe appeal to get her son through a “tragic time.” Now deleted, the fundraiser created by Teneal Burnside said her son was recovering in hospital following several surgeries for nine bullet wounds. She said the 23-year-old was going to the Chiefs’ Super Bowl celebration when he was shot “multiple times.” It raised around $100 before the appeal disappeared.

Prosecutors charged Lyndell Mays with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon after an incident at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade on February 14 that killed one person and injured 22 others. Police say the gunfire broke out when Mays had an altercation with 18-year-old Dominic Miller, who was also charged with the same offenses.

The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office said the two men, who did not know each other, got into a spat, during which Mays drew his weapon, prompting others to do the same. Gunfire followed, and police said both men had “no regard for thousands of other individuals in the area.” Dominic Miller allegedly fired the bullet that killed 43-year-old bystander Lisa Lopez Gavlan, a mother of two.

Police arrested and charged two others with gun and resisting arrest charges, but they were not named because they were charged as minors. Kansas City Police Department is still investigating and said further charges may follow.

The incident occurred on Valentine’s Day as the Kansas City Chiefs paraded to celebrate their Super Bowl victory in January. Among the injured were several young children who received treatment at local hospitals. Lisa Lopez-Galvan, described as an avid Chiefs fan, died during surgery after being hit in the abdomen by a stray bullet.

Online videos show fans running away from the gunfire amid a panic outbreak. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, who was present with his wife, told reporters that the White House called him and offered federal assistance in the subsequent investigation.
