(ProsperNews.net) – A security officer working for Canadian rapper Drake has been shot at his Toronto mansion. A bullet struck the guard’s chest while he stood near the gates of the musician’s house in what police described as a drive-by shooting. Inspector Paul Krawczyk of the Integrated Gun and Gang Task Force said the shooter fled the scene and confirmed that the rapper’s security team was assisting police with their inquiries.
Inspector Krawczyk explained that he had obtained video footage of the incident but did not comment on its contents. He also said the security guard was hospitalized in a serious condition.
The incident happened while the rapper is engaged in an increasingly hostile feud with fellow hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar. Lamar’s latest song, Not Like Us, features cover art images of the Canadian’s house, and the lyrics accuse Drake of having relationships with underage girls and sharing his home with sex offenders. In response, Drake released a track denying the allegations and saying he was “disgusted” by them.
The two men have not always been enemies. When Lamar was new to the music scene, Drake offered him help and advice and invited him to perform on one of his albums and a 2012 concert tour. Lamar later warned other rappers, including Drake, that despite his admiration for them, he wanted to “murder” them. Jibes were subsequently exchanged, and the feud continued.
The vendetta reportedly heated up days before the shooting when Lamar publicly “doxxed” Drake’s home address in a song – one of three released by the men in 36 hours.
Police have not linked the shooting incident to the ongoing feud between the two musicians and say a motive has not yet been established. The security guard was not named.
The world of hip-hop and rap is notorious for long-running rivalries. One of the most infamous was between Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G., both of whom were shot dead in the 1990s.
