(ProsperNews.net) – Retired Californians have moved en masse to a small Idaho town, where locals are worried they have brought “liberal garbage” with them. Eagle, Idaho, has seen a massive influx of retired Californian cops and firefighters whose pension funds stretch further in the Gem State. Former Mayor Jason Pierce moved to the town twenty years ago and lost an election to a recently arrived Californian with much more money to spend. Pierce was furious and warned Idaho residents that Golden State natives were used to socialism and would bring it to their door.
New Mayor Brad Pike, however, vehemently denied that claim and said, “I came here looking for anything that’s not the liberal, socialistic view of the government in California.”
Thousands of residents have fled the Golden State in recent years, with many conservatives saying they can no longer tolerate life in super-liberal California. Between January 2020 and July 2022, more than half a million left the state, and IRS data shows the tax revenue there dropped by $340 million in 2021. One police officer who moved from California to Idaho said, “70% to 80% of us would still be in California” if not for the liberal political policies there.
California even lost a seat in the US House of Representatives in 2021 due to population decline, and if the trend continues over the next few years, it may lose yet another one, according to some reports.
Former California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore claimed in 2021 that many Californians are even moving south of the border into Mexico to escape Democrat policies that he argued had driven gas and heating prices through the roof. “We’re seeing more and more working Californians essentially living in Mexico for the cheap rent and working remotely,” he said. The state average gas price was $6.43 per gallon at the time.
DeVore left California for Texas and told Fox News that the cost of living, particularly concerning real estate and energy, was driving thousands away.
