(ProsperNews.net) – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg will testify at a Congressional hearing about Donald Trump’s hush money trial. Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, chair of the House Weaponization of the Federal Government Subcommittee, wrote to Mr. Bragg and attorney Matthew Colangelo, requiring they attend an investigation hearing to “examine actions by state and local prosecutors to engage politically motivated prosecutions of federal officials.”
In response to Jordan’s letter, General Counsel Lesli Dubeck said the DA is committed to cooperation but must consider the “propriety” of testifying and cannot attend on the date suggested by Jordan.
Dubeck furthermore noted that the case against Donald Trump is ongoing, with sentencing due on a date after the one suggested for a hearing by Mr. Jordan. She concluded that Mr. Bragg would welcome the opportunity to discuss the matter further, agree on a date, and “better understand the scope and purpose” of the congressional meeting.
Republicans established the weaponization subcommittee believing that the Justice Department and District Attorneys across America are using the criminal justice system to persecute political opponents and that Bragg’s charges against Trump are part of that process.
Established in January 2023, the committee immediately launched an investigation into the FBI, which it believed targeted conservatives such as traditional Catholics and anti-abortion campaigners.
When the committee became aware of an internal memo suggesting that the federal agency was monitoring Catholic churches for signs of extremism, Rep. Jordan subpoenaed FBI Director Christopher Wray.
It also probed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and its investigation into controversial billionaire Elon Musk and his purchase of Twitter. Citing user security concerns, the FTC demanded to see private internal communications involving Mr. Musk, a move viewed with suspicion by the Weaponization Subcommittee. Mr. Musk is an outspoken critic of the Biden administration and facilitated the online publication of allegations that the FBI colluded with Twitter’s prior owners to conceal the Hunter Biden laptop scandal in the runup to the 2020 Presidential election.
