Black Voters Blame Mayor for Community’s Decline Over Migrants

(ProsperNews.net) – Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson faced harsh criticism from an elderly Black resident during a recent town hall meeting, where she condemned his pro-migrant policies for devastating the city’s Black communities. The woman, who identified herself as an 80-year-old who grew up in the Jim Crow South, accused Johnson of enacting policies reminiscent of that era and called him a “disgrace.”

“I’m an 80-year-old woman, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” she said. “I grew up in the Jim Crow South, and the policies that you’re passing in this city remind me of the Jim Crow South.” She explained that while she experienced segregation, she did not have to worry about her community being destroyed. “Everybody else is in my community, but Black people. And this is what you’ve done with this immigration.”

The woman criticized Johnson’s handling of the migrant crisis, arguing that the influx of migrants has harmed Chicago’s Black neighborhoods. “You have allowed all these people. You’ve brought all these people into this city. You are destroying this city. And the Black community is flooded with all these immigrants—violent ones, prostitution, gangs. You did that! You are doing this to your people. You are an absolute disgrace to me,” she said.

Drawing a stark contrast between the past and present, the woman recalled the sense of community she had growing up. “I drank out of that colored water fountain, but I could go back to that Black community that was intact,” she said. “Women are crying, taxes are going up. What am I going to do with my children? Where are we going to go and live? This is because of you, Brandon Johnson! You’re destroying the Black Southside of Chicago with your policies.”

This confrontation is part of a broader wave of criticism that Johnson and other Chicago Democrats have faced from local Black residents. At a recent town hall held by Chicago Congressman Jonathan Jackson, attendees expressed anger over the impact of the migrant crisis on their communities, with one resident warning that Democrats are replacing Black residents with migrants.

The tension has led to increased grassroots opposition among Black Chicagoans, who feel abandoned by their elected officials. Many are organizing against the influx of migrants, particularly as most taxpayer-funded migrant shelters have been placed in predominantly Black neighborhoods. Frustration has reached the point where some Black grassroots organizations have pledged to “vote red” and oust Black Democrats from office.

This conflict between Black voters and their elected representatives may have significant consequences for the Democratic Party, as support from Black voters appears to be waning. While Barack Obama enjoyed 95 percent support from Black voters during his presidential runs, recent polling shows Vice President Kamala Harris has seen her support from this key demographic drop to just 63 percent.
