(ProsperNews.net) – Residents of the Windy City are suing left-wing Mayor Brandon Johnson for giving the go-ahead to construct an enormous “tent city” in the Brighton Park area. The camp will be used to house around 1,400 illegal aliens, according to the Mayor.
The project was also disowned by elected officials, with Alderwoman Julia Ramirez, who represents the region, telling her constituents she had no say in the matter. Ramirez wrote an open letter to her voters saying she wasn’t consulted about the encampment and rejected the idea that it was her proposal.
The Alderwoman denied putting her constituency forward for consideration. She wrote, “The mayor’s administration has been in direct contact with the property owner of the site at 38th & California, without looping in my office.”
The new lawsuit was announced on the Twitter account of the 16th & 17th District Chicago Police Scanner, and said, “Brighton Park residents are suing the city of Chicago for a temporary restraining order on the 38th and California migrant tent city.” The tweet also contains claims that the city did not issue construction permits for the camp, and residents believe they have the right to hold the city to account for failing to follow its own rules.
Protests have been taking place in the Windy City as the migrant crisis begins to impact residents who believe they are being ignored in favor of recently arrived illegal migrants, and in October, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker called on the federal government to address the problem.
Joined by Mayor Johnson, Governor Pritzker spoke to White House intergovernmental affairs director Tom Perez and chief of staff Jeff Zients, who told them to follow “best practices” like New York and offer migrants the opportunity to work.
In November, Eric Adams announced that the federal government had cleared around 3,000 migrants to look for work in New York. “We have thousands of jobs available. We need to make sure we allow people to fill those jobs,” Mr. Adams said.
