(ProsperNews.net) – President Biden marked the anniversary of the January 6 riots on Capitol Hill with a major speech warning of domestic extremism and white supremacy. Biden delivered the speech at Valley Forge, where George Washington’s army camped during the American Revolutionary War. In his opening remarks, he condemned Donald Trump for a “web of lies” that encouraged the violence in the nation’s Capitol buildings.
The President went on to say that Trump was the first leader in American history to reject the handover of power by violent means, but democracy prevailed thanks to the hard work and effort of Capitol Police officers and the National Guard. “Even during the Civil War, that never, ever happened,” he said.
At Mother Emanuel AME Church in South Carolina, at a later campaign stop, President Biden addressed the “poison” of white supremacy. The church is the site of the murder of nine black congregants by a white shooter in 2015. “White supremacy is a poison that for too long has haunted this nation. This has no place in America, not today, tomorrow, or ever,” Biden said.
Critics argue that Biden is focusing on race to win back the support of black and Latino voters who have abandoned him in large numbers. A USA Today/Suffolk University poll recently revealed that support for Democrats among black voters has dropped from 87% in 2021 to 63% today. Support for Donald Trump has not fallen, however, among blacks and is increasing among other minority communities.
Figures show that more Hispanic voters support Trump than Biden, by 39%-34%. Young people have also abandoned Biden, with Trump leading by 37%-33%. Overall, the survey showed Trump ahead among all voters by 39%-37%, with 17% saying they would prefer to support a third-party candidate.
Trump also leads in separate surveys, including an Emerson College poll from early January, which places the former President ahead by 3%. He also maintains a double-digit lead in the Republican primaries.
