(ProsperNews.net) – President Biden has apologized to a group of Muslim leaders for questioning the validity of casualty figures provided by Hamas. At a press conference in October, the President said, “I have no notion that the Palestinians are telling the truth about how many people are killed,” before adding that casualties and the deaths of innocent people are inevitable in war.
He later met with a group of five Muslims and said, “I’m sorry. I’m disappointed in myself.” Biden later added that he has spent weeks advocating for a pause in fighting so that civilians in Gaza may receive vital aid and assistance. “We know that innocent children in Gaza are suffering greatly as well,” he said.
President Biden’s response to the latest Middle East conflict has faced criticism from both Republican and Democrat benches. Former President Trump slammed him for the fact that there were no Americans among the recently released hostages. On his Truth Social media account, Trump wrote there was “only one reason for that,” which he said was a lack of respect for America and its leaders. Two Americans were released on October 20, but none were included in the 50 people set free during a four-day ceasefire in November.
At the time of Trump’s comments, Biden was vacationing in Nantucket and admitted he did not know the conditions Americans were kept in, nor when they may be set free. “It’s my hope and expectation it will be soon,” he said.
Meanwhile, support for Biden among Democrats is dwindling. A Gallop poll on October 26 showed his approval fell 11 points among Democrat supporters since the terror attack on Israel on October 7 and Biden’s solid support of the Jewish state.
A subsequent survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research in November showed the Democratic party is split into two almost equal divisions. The poll found that 50% of Democrats approved of Biden’s response to the conflict, while 46% disapproved.
