(ProsperNews.net) – An autopsy report has confirmed the cause of Christian singer Mandisa’s sudden death at age 47. The report states that Mandisa died from complications related to class III obesity. The Grammy Award winner and American Idol star was found dead in her Nashville home in April, but no cause was immediately cited. Previous media interviews indicated that Mandisa struggled with her weight and connected bouts of depression.
In 2017, she spoke with hosts on Good Morning America, saying she had struggled with “emotional eating” throughout her life and became profoundly depressed when she put on weight. She also suffered considerably following a close friend’s death from breast cancer. Mandisa confessed that she turned to food for comfort and ate takeout meals in front of the TV for weeks.
After the singer’s death, rumors emerged suggesting she may have committed suicide, but her father insisted these were untrue.
John Hundley spoke at an event celebrating his daughter’s life and said, “She did not harm herself. Mandisa loves the Lord, and the Lord loves Mandisa.” Mr. Hundley speculated that the singer fell from her bed and could not reach her cell phone to call for help. He also noted that she contracted COVID-19 and labored to recover.
California-native Mandisa won the hearts of millions when she confronted British critic Simon Cowell on American Idol in 2005 after his derogatory remarks about her weight. She later told Cowell that his comments were “painful,” but she had forgiven him, prompting him to confess that he felt “one millimeter small.”
Mandisa ended her American Idol experience with a place in the top ten and released her first album, “True Beauty,” two years later. It debuted at the top of the Billboard Christian album chart, joining her single, “Only the World,” at number one on the Hot Singles chart. The singer released six more albums, including “Overcomer” in 2013, for which she won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album.
