Attack Claims 8 Lives, Injures 2,800

(ProsperNews.net) – A Lebanese minister reported on Tuesday that eight people were killed and 2,800 injured in a series of explosions targeting pagers used by Hezbollah members and fighters for communication. The apparent attack has raised concerns about the security of the devices Hezbollah has relied on since Israel killed its second-in-command, Fuad Shukr, in July.

According to Lebanon’s health minister, the blasts left 200 people seriously wounded. Among the dead were two Hezbollah members and the young daughter of a Hezbollah fighter, who was killed when a pager exploded in her parents’ home.

Images and videos circulating on social media depicted men with severe abdominal and chest injuries, believed to be caused by the exploding pagers, which detonated almost simultaneously on Tuesday. Speculation has arisen that Hezbollah switched to using pagers as a less traceable means of communication after abandoning more sophisticated mobile devices following Shukr’s death.

It remains unclear how the pagers were hacked or whether Israel was responsible, but there is speculation that malware might have caused the lithium batteries in the devices to overheat and explode. The Times of Israel reported that pagers also exploded in Syria, where Hezbollah and Iranian forces are active in military operations, suggesting the attack may have affected a wider network.

The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon was among those injured in the blasts, and the son of a Hezbollah member of the Lebanese parliament was also killed. The full extent of the damage underscores the vulnerabilities that Hezbollah faces as it adapts its communication methods in the ongoing conflict with Israel.

While no official confirmation has been made regarding the source of the attack, the incident highlights the growing risks associated with technological warfare and the potential consequences of using compromised devices in sensitive operations.
