Army Veteran Run Over by 8 Vehicles

(ProsperNews.net) – A US Army veteran died when several vehicles ran over him on a Florida highway. John Dyer lost control of his motorcycle on Highway 27 in the Sunshine State and was struck by eight vehicles after landing in the center of a travel line. The 26-year-old was pronounced dead on the scene. His father said, “The first car probably killed him. I don’t think he suffered, but how did all of those cars just keep running him over?”

The young ex-soldier was born in Russia but adopted by the Dyer family and taken to live in New York before later moving to Florida. He enrolled in the Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division in 2019. His father said he was afraid of heights but overcame the fear, believing he should serve America. He also feared water, but he overcame that by learning to surf on the beaches of Montauk, Long Island. John was honorably discharged last March and remained in Florida to make future plans.

Police have opened an investigation into the incident, but initial reports suggest that the drivers who struck Mr. Dyer did not realize it at the time.

John Dyer senior told reporters that the accident happened on his son’s 26th birthday, and the last contact he and his wife had with him were text messages wishing him a happy birthday. When they didn’t receive a response to their birthday texts, they left a voicemail, but he did not respond to that either.

“Two cops came to my door and asked for the family of John Dyer,” his father explained. “I assumed he got a ticket or something, and then they told me he died in a motorcycle accident. It’s devastating, I didn’t know how to tell my wife,” he added.

The latest available statistics show that almost 4,000 people died on Florida’s roads in 2021, an increase of 12% from the previous year and 20% since 2017.
