AOC Called Out Over Driving Non-union Electric Vehicle Amid Support for UAW Strike

(ProsperNews.net) – Liberal New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defended her decision to purchase a non-union-produced electric vehicle (EV) when questioned by a CBS reporter. Speaking to Margaret Brennan on “Face the Nation,” Ocasio-Cortez mentioned her support for the United Auto Workers (UAW) strikes in Michigan and other states when Brennan reminded her of her commitment to buying a union-made EV, but instead, the Democrat purchased a non-union Tesla. She said she bought the car during the pandemic and before a wide range of options were available.

The UAW strike began on September 15 with workers protesting against Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, demanding fewer hours, more pay, and more retirement benefits. The strike action has caught the attention of Members of Congress and Presidential election contenders.

Independent Senator Bernie Sanders praised the strikers and said they were victims of “corporate greed.” Sanders said he strongly disagrees with the principle that wages – whether for workers or chief executives – should be determined by free market principles, as Presidential contender Mike Pence argued. He also supports the four-day week demanded by strikers because artificial intelligence will fill many labor gaps.

President Biden and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump made plans to speak to the striking workers and in a historic first, Biden announced he would join the picket line. Donald Trump already scheduled a visit to talk to union workers in Detroit and slammed President Biden, whom he said had no intention of taking the strikers seriously until he announced his visit. On social media, Mr. Trump said auto workers were being sold out with “this electric car scam.”

Trump visits Detroit as the second GOP Presidential primary debate gets underway in Los Angeles. The former President opted not to attend the debate, as he did not attend the first event in Milwaukee. On that occasion, he opted for a sit-down interview with Tucker Carlson, saying he refused to be “harassed” by people who should not be running for President.
