6 Killed, 15 Hurt: High School Bus Collides with Semi-Truck

(ProsperNews.net) – A high school bus and semi-truck collided on an Ohio highway, resulting in the deaths of six people and injuring 15 others. According to Tuscarawas Valley Local Schools, the district overseeing the bus involved in the accident, the bus had students on board and some of the passengers might’ve suffered severe injuries due the accident.

According to Lt. Nate Dennis, an officer of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, five different vehicles collided and 18 bus passengers were removed from the scene. The crash occurred just before 9:00 a.m., and emergency personnel responded to the accident shortly thereafter. The identities of the deceased are known, and the superintendent of Tuscarawas Valley confirmed that some of the bus’ passengers were injured in the crash.

Superintendent Derek Varansky spoke about the accident, and claimed that law enforcement informed the school about multiple injured people. Varansky claims that the school district is attempting to learn more information regarding the accident, and will be providing support for other members of the community. Varansky also said the school district is working on informing families of those involved in the accident.

Following the accident family members pulled their students out of Tuscarawas Valley Middle School, due to the shared grief from the incident. Family members spoke to the press about the collision, with one mother claiming she was sick to her stomach. The details surrounding the collision are unclear, and authorities are still working on identifying the cause of the crash and identifying those involved in the accident.

Pioneer Trails, a family owned business overseeing the bus, released a statement to confirm its cooperation with authorities regarding the collision. The Department of Transportation released inspection information regarding Pioneer Trials, which show the company’s involvement in one other crash over the past two years. The inspection information also indicates Pioneer Trials maintains a satisfactory rating in terms of safety.

The collision is now designated as a “mass casualty” event, and authorities are actively investigating the collision to determine how the Pioneer Trails bus crashed into the semi-truck. Authorities are expected to release more details relating to the investigation in the coming days.
