(ProsperNews.net) – A letter signed by 500 of President Biden’s staff in 2021 has resurfaced and shows that many of the President’s supporters hold anti-Israel views. The Biden campaigners penned the letter in May 2021 following an Israeli raid on the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, which sparked an 11-day war between the Jewish state and the terrorist group Hamas.
The letter referred to Israel as “occupying” the Gaza Strip and an “ongoing history of blockade.” The writers note that Israeli civilians are under regular attack by Hamas but state that while they have bomb shelters to shield themselves, Palestinian civilians have none. “While we should never reduce the loss of human life to numbers, Palestinians have suffered hundreds of casualties, demonstrative of Israel’s power over Palestinians and its penchant for disproportionate responses,” the letter states.
It is signed by various activists and staff from across the US, including members of the Democratic National Committee.
Meanwhile, the White House has announced $100 million in aid for Palestinian civilians, which the President said will be used for food, water, and other essentials, while assuring Americans there were “mechanisms in place” to prevent the funds from reaching Hamas. He also called on Egypt to open its border with Gaza and allow civilians to leave before Israel begins its ground offensive. The President is expected to ask Congress to approve a $100 billion package for US assistance to Israel and Ukraine.
The funds will be split with $61 billion for Ukraine, $14 billion for Israel, and $9 billion for humanitarian aid. Republican disquiet about continued funding for Ukraine continues, but the GOP is in disarray due to internal conflict on the election of a new House Speaker. Frontrunner Jim Jordan has yet to obtain the 217 votes he needs but said he supports Israel and endorses US aid for its war against Hamas.
President Biden has urged the House of Representatives to resolve the Speaker issue and return to the normal government process in America’s interest.
