21 Shot In Less Than 72 Hours

(ProsperNews.net) – Chicago’s left-wing Mayor, Brandon Johnson, is under pressure to cut crime as the Windy City experienced yet another deadly weekend in December. At least 21 people were shot, including four fatalities, over the weekend of December 9, bringing the total number of gun-related deaths in the city to 555 this year.

Among those killed was an 18-year-old who was found in the driver’s seat of his car with a bullet to his head. Ismael Yanez, 42, also died from a shot to the head and was also discovered in his vehicle. A 44-year-old died in a shootout between two others, while a 32-year-old was fatally shot in the chest. Vehicles were involved in all four deadly incidents, with victims either driving or hitching a ride as passengers.

Crime has exploded in the Windy City under the leadership of Mr. Johnson, who has consistently blamed his predecessor for the problem but continues to pursue “progressive” policies. In November, Johnson blamed “right-wing extremism” for his city’s growing crime rate and the explosion of migration under his watch. Johnson said his critics were “still mad that a black man is free in this country” and still did not accept the result of the Civil War.

During the Mayoral election campaign earlier this year, Johnson took the side of the Black Lives Matter campaign and called for police de-funding, while his opponent Paul Vallas ran on a tough-on-crime ticket and won the support of the city’s police unions. Mr. Johnson racialized the election however and denounced his white opponent, Vallas, accusing him of being “dismissive of a black man” and requesting that he listen when a black man speaks.

Mr. Johnson has continually defended his “progressive” crime plans and pledged to end the police tactic known as ShotSpotter – a measure intended to reduce gun violence. ShotSpotter is technology deployed in high crime areas that alerts police to shooting sites. Leftists condemn the technology for its adverse impact on communities of color.
